Fine Dinning and Jazz Come to JD’s Bistro in Port Charlotte

We recently dined with some friends at JD’s Bistro and Grill located next to the Days Inn in the Murdock area of Port Charlotte. If you haven’t been there since it reopened after a true metamorphosis from the prior restaurant, you are in for a big surprise. Gone are the trains that rolled above your head and the old diner booths and tables, replaced with a stylish decor in soft earth tones that is welcoming and inviting. The set up includes relaxing areas to sit and enjoy a drink in front of a fireplace, as well as an ample bar area to sit and relax after work or before your meal.

The highlight for our group on the Saturday night we attended was the jazz trio on piano, bass/saxophone and female vocalist. The trio gave JD’s the sophisticated atmosphere of a Manhattan restaurant but with friendly, southern hospitality and attentive service.

As for the food, our entire party of six enjoyed their selections. I started with mussels in a light tomato/basil sauce with fingerling potatoes and chorizo. It was a delicious sauce but could have had more chorizo for my taste. The most popular selection at our table were the crab cakes which appeared to be 99% lump crabmeat and perfectly seasoned, served over a bed of rice and shrimp, with sautéed vegetables. My wife enjoyed her melt in your mouth filet mignon and another member of our party enjoyed his seared duck breast with a lingonberry glaze.

Unfortunately, we were all too full for desert but were allowed to linger in the restaurant and enjoy the great music and conversation until late in the evening. Our one friend did enjoy her chocolate martini garnished with a Milky Way bar.
